Sen. Gounardes Toasts the Enactment of Direct-to-Consumer Shipping Legislation for Distillers
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUGUST 20, 2024
New York State Senator Andrew Gounardes released the following statement after Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation allowing New York’s craft distillers to ship liquor, cider, mead, and other alcohols directly to consumers. Senator Gounardes’ district is home to local distilleries that will benefit from the law’s passage:
“These homegrown distilleries not only produce beloved craft liquors that serve as a centerpiece of celebrations and gatherings for so many New Yorkers—they’re also a cornerstone of our economy and a reminder that New York is a place where hard-working entrepreneurs can make, produce and manufacture great things.
“With this legislation, we level the playing field for all distillers by allowing them to sell directly to consumers, creating up new opportunities for local businesses and strengthening our economy here in Brooklyn and throughout the state. I’m offering a toast to Governor Kathy Hochul for signing this bill into law.”
